Some of the new capabilities to be highlighted include feature detection which can be used to automatically extract geometric shape data from a surface mesh, geodesic paths which allow the shortest path between two points on a mesh to be calculated, and optimal rotation of solids, for print bed optimisation.
"Together with performance improvements to existing capabilities, such as automatic mesh healing, multiple solid collision detection and enormous mesh Boolean
operations, Polygonica provides a rich set of tools for Additive Manufacturing hardware and software vendors", says David Knight, Sales Manager at MachineWorks.
The Polygonica stand will also feature 3D Printed parts which were used by Sheffield Formula Racing in the construction of their racing car for the Formula Student competition. Polygonica software was used to heal and prepare the parts prior to 3D Printing in Titanium at the Mercury Centre, University of Sheffield.
Hybrid manufacturing simulation is yet another example of the functions that MachineWorks can deliver. Since 1994, MachineWorks has been refining its Boolean algorithms for true solid simulation on a CNC machining process. Now with hybrid machines, MachineWorks simulates both manufacturing processes - subtractive and additive in a single environment. In hybrid manufacturing we can see the material deposited by a Laser Metal Deposition (LMD) process and then being removed by the traditional CNC machining process.
Dr Knight will be delivering a seminar on hybrid manufacturing "Preparing for the next manufacturing revolution" at 14.15 on the 30th September.
