Working on both individual parts and entire assemblies, Polygonica's automagic mesh healing is renowned as being amongst the best in the business, winning large-scale benchmarks time and time again.
Polygonica's healing efficiently fixes:
- orientation issues,
- tiny gaps and cracks
- large holes whilst preserving surrounding curvature
- tiny self-intersections and noise geometry
- large self-intersecting regions
- none manifold edges and vertices
- foldover geometry
Polygonica also offers a dedicated function to handle issues introduced due to changes in vertex coordinate precision. Most CAD formats store coordinates in double precision, whilst most mesh formats such as STL, 3MF and OBJ store coordinates in single precision. When the precision of a coordinate changes it can shift slightly in space, introducing new mesh issues such as tiny self-intersections and none-manifold geometry. With Polygonica you can transfer meshes between different coordinate systems reliably and securely.
Polygonica's healing operations are polygon-based, so they only modify the mesh where it is necessary to, leaving all other polygons untouched. Polygonica also provides voxel-based reconstruction, in which the mesh is sampled into a 3D grid, which can be useful in extreme cases when a mesh has millions of self-intersections or large amounts of non-manifold or open geometry. The voxel-based approach creates a surface that approximates the original surface, but in which the polygons do not match the polygons in the original mesh.
A range of operations are provided for cases where there is not enough connected data to provide a meaningful result using standard automatic healing. These include shrinkwrap, closing using a reference mesh and ragged boundary smoothing.
So whether you're STL fixing for 3D printing, autoquoting from uploaded geometry, automatically generating dental aligners from customer scans or trying to get a nasty mesh to run in your CAE simulation, try out Polygonica's healing - it's likely to make your life, and your customer's lives, much easier!
